mohagany ok for frames?

Was given some scrap mohagany by a nice old lady who had it stored in her garage. Would it be good for frames? Thaniks! paul.

Wow! Mahagony for frames. Maybe for an,...............elitist beekeeper. They would add quite a bit of weight to a super, wouldn't they? Perhaps they would be good! I haven't had the the,..."privilege/luxury" of using mahagony for my hives. Maybe for,..bottom boards, tops, hive stands or just parts of the frames?

I didnt think it was worth much more than cedar or pine. It is quite heavy and no knots, of course, so maybe someone will want it. Guess I better price it and see if I can find a buyer. Thanks for the advice! Paul.

Take it from someone who had to cut 4-inch floorboards down to 2.5-inch
widths so that they would match the rest of the house....

1) You'll need a carbide blade for the table saw.

2) Even then, you will feed the stock so slow, you will die of boredom.

3) Even then, the stock will smoke and scorch.

4) And you may even wear out the blade and need to buy a second.

Hardwood is great, but the name is worth noting - "HARDwood".

Sell the mahogany to a woodworker, and buy pine.

Mahogany is a beautifully grained wood that is very highly prized for furniture uses. It fetches a high premium.

I think mahogany is a terrible choice! You should get rid of it immediately by sending it to me!

Phil Hempel of Blossomland Supply (www.blossomland.com I think) had a hardwood hive, unused, on his front porch. It is beautiful, but it ain't Mohogany.

If there is enough, I think it would be outstanding for an observation hive. Seriously, don't waste it on a working hive.
