Default Pledge and lemon grass oil

I have been checking around our area for Lemon grass oil and no one has it--so far. I read in one of the earlier threads that some people have used Pledge and it worked the same-- and smelled the same.

Is this true? Will it work the same? It is probably easier to get.

    Thanks!

I use Lemon Scent Pledge all the time. It seems to work well, but I can't say whether it is better, worse or about the same as Lemon Grass oil since I have never tried it.

As I understand it, Lemon Pledge will work, but the difference between it and lemon grass oil is how long it lasts: days vs. weeks.

it's supposed to be an effective lure for swarms.. I've also read recently that it's a “happy-bee” pheremone so at least one person out there in a sprayer of syrup when working hives.

this is all hearsay, I have yet to start up my hive, so it's me repeating what I've heard and read

How am I using the Pledge?? Well, usually on the furniture but since I can't find Lemon grass oil I thought I'd try Pledge as a lure. I know I can get that.

Just wasn't sure if it really worked... or how well. I see indypartridge says it's a matter of lasting for a short time or not.

Here's what you get in pledge for your bees.

Here's one of about 10000 places to get lemongrass oil.

    Sr. Tanya,

I get my lemon grass oil from a nature and herb store called Herbalicious on Main Street in Mt. Pleasant.

I don't use the pledge as a swarm lure, I use a couple of peices of old comb, works really well. I use the pledge when I collect a swarm. I spray a little on the lid of my swarm bucket and it helps collect the stragglers after I drop the swarm into the bucket. I also use it when I do cutouts. I spray a little on the hive top so when I shake/dump the bees in more of them will go to the new hive and fewer will collect at the old colony location. I have tried the cutout process without it and it makes a big difference when I use it.

    Carbide,

Mt Pleasant is a little too far for me. I'm leaning towards the pledge but would rather have the lemongrass oil.

I've checked pharmacies only so far.

Thanks for the info-- I'll see about a different type of store-- like you mentioned.

    Gene Weitzel,

Thanks for the information on how you use it. Now, out to get another spray bottle!

    Thanks!

    Default check with Betterbee

Betterbee carries some essential oils. That's where I got my lemongrass.

My wife gets essential oils at the local health food store and a "organic hippie coop". They are really quite easy to find on the net or in a health food store. I had no problem finding some.

I'm doing a trial, comparing swarm lure from Dadant to lemongrass oil. Maybe I'll report my findings if there's any significant conclusion. Most of the time when I do a trial like this the bees give me no discernable indicator. I think they do it to mess me up.

Thank you everyone for all the sources. I'll check them out-- probably GNC since I've bought from them before.
