Splitting Question

Hello all,
I was wondering... since I made a 7 deep top bar observation hive, and am installing a 2 pound package of bees into it, is it possible that the colony would overcrowd quickly enough for me to split it this year? And for both colonies to be able to survive the winter? I was just wondering, but If it is possible, I may make a nuc.

It is likely.

That isn't as likely. I'd see how they do and combine them if they aren't that strong.
