plastic hive dividers

Was interested in getting anyone's experience with the plastic hive dividers that you can use to create small nucs with a standard deep hive body:

Specifically was wondering with phermones from multiple queens that can pass through the built in screen was enough to cause confusion in a multi-hive deep. I have heard reports of the nucs becoming single queen units.

Also, has anyone just cut out their own dividers using luan plywood, similar to queen castles. The plastic dividers at $10 each seems a little pricy.

I make the dividers out of masonite (or whatever the generic is). I slot the hive bodies for nucs. This has the advantage of working with bodies that aren't slotted but it hasn't bothered me thus far.

i bought some luan today and plan on putting a 1/4 dado in the hive bodies similar to what drobbins did in his post below,

I bought a couple of them. They never really worked out.

I have one. It is very difficult to keep in place. It's made of several plastic segments which slide relative to one another on pins. It just won't stay put when you put the inner cover on, etc.

I have used them but not to divide a hive into two nucs.
They used to be advertized as plastic follower boards and used as such they work adequately. You can also use them to pin a queen in a specific area of the hive.
If I was going to divide a hive body I would slot the box and install tempered masonite or exterior grade plywood.
