My very rough calculations give about two supers of honey required to heat that hive at that temp. for 100 days . Of course it won't be at 9.3 degrees 100 days but it will be cold to some degree for six months so two supers per winter seems about right. Shows the need for insulated hives to me. It would lower honey use and lower bee work. Good work SOWBEE, I will work on my math a bit and think about insulated or poly boxes.
Be nice to know the wind speed when you took that scan.
