Halofenozide is the active ingredient made my Dow Chemical Co. Personally, I wouldn't use it esp. with fish and creeks near my house.

Bjorn, not true. Its only specific to beetle and moth grubs. Where did you get the information that it will kill everything?

Apparently its a synthetic molting hormone that targets only beetle grubs. It won't take care of adult beetles but it may be useful under hives where the larvae pupate in the soil. Seems to be safe and very specific to lepidoptera spp. The trade name is Mach 2.

From what people say, Guardstar (the ground poision) doesn't work very well so I don't know why I would risk using this close to my hives. Of course I'm not one to throw poisons, hormones, etc. around willy nilly.

Beetles are coleoptera not lepidoptera. Evidently it's not that specific.

Unless you plan to cover the entire state, what's the point?

They are going to be in your hives if they are in the area whether you cover the ground with poison or not. I have bees in solid granite, there are no larva growing in it, guaranteed! And without doubt, my worst yard for beetles.
