Default Anywhere, in the states, to make heather honey?

Is heather honey mainly an European 'thing'? Would it be possibly to make comb honey, using heather plants in the north eastern states?

    thx

There are a couple of heather societies scattered across North America. I don't know if you would find a large enough planting anywhere to produce a substaintial amount of comb hone.

Also, from what I gathered heather only is gathered by the bees in cool weather...hence European moores?

What North American plants can be used in place of heather for comb honey. Reason asking is because heather comb honey is thick and be so does not need to be drained after cutting into sections. Is there a N.A plant with asimilar trait?

    thx
