Toads missing?

This is the first year that we have noticed that there are no toads. None in the garden, none in shrubbery, none "dead on the road" either. Anyone else notice a shortage?

Hmmm, now that you've mentioned it, I haven't see any, either. I did see a couple of those little smooth green frogs that hop across the road when it's hot and wet out that didn't make it - but no toads. I'll have to be on the lookout when I'm out in the garden for the next few days and report back.

Yeah, if anyone's missing any Colorado River Toads, it looks like they're all down here in Southern Arizona.

There was one on our home sidewalk last night beside our rock garden. We have one living in a bunch of electrical conduit laying on the concrete beside the outside dock behind the building where I work. We have another one that occasionally crawls up out of the drain grate in the driveway at work.

I haven't noticed any lack of them.

I haven't seen many, figured it was because it was so dry. It's been raining for a week now, but I haven't been looking.

Bats, on the other hand, hoo boy, do I have bats!

Like everything else in this wacky year, I think the timing is a little off.

We would usually have loads of large toads by this time, I am seeing lots of small ones.

Because of all the rain we had in June, we have an overabundance of toads and frogs. I'm happy to see them, because in drier years, there are very few.

Amphibians have been declining for years; their numbers are reducing overall and the number of species decreases each survey worldwide as well. I think it's been noted for a couple decades, and still continues. I haven't heard that any solid reasons have been identified (though theories of course abound). Sound familiar?

I think the extras flew on wings down here to Texas because my yard is plentiful in toady goodness. The herons are snakes are pretty happy about it too.

I have several that hang out all night on my front porch and the breeze way between my back door and garage. They eat bugs all night and leave me reminders that they have been there. I have a couple of 100 gallon plastic stock tanks full of water for the bees and I've noticed that the toads take advantage of that to lay their eggs.

I have someone's allotment in the sawdust pile for the horse stalls. Nearly every night I shovel up at least one into the wheel barrow.
