    Default Need meditation/toast/blessing

I need the appropriate words to go with a gift of honey. You poets help me out here...

    On your wedding day
This honey from my bees is my gift to you.
    It is sweet
    It is pure
It is not so rare that those who desire it cannot have it
But neither is it so common that any may savor its richness
That which you have in your hand is now yours alone
With care it will last forever
    If neglected it will spoil
In times of hardship it will sustain you
In times of joy it will delight you
    Be gentle with this gift

I think that's wonderful just how it is.

I gave honey as a wedding gift last year and made special labels with the couple's names on one side and "May all your years together be sweet" on the other.

Not too smarmy or sugary? It's supposed to convey the attributes of a good marriage. Critics welcome.

What's wrong w/ smarmy or sugary? What the couple will remember is what came from you, your sentiment, your smarmy sweetness. Well done.

My wife only wishes I could be that swarmy and sweet.

Unfortunately, I don't have a sappy bone in my body. It would get me alot farther if I did.

    I'd leave it as is.

I think it would be hard to improve on what you have. I am sure she will love it.

Okay, maybe this O So slight variation to the 6th line to transition from honey to love:

    On your wedding day
This honey from my bees is my gift to you.
    It is sweet
    It is pure
It is not so rare that those who desire it cannot have it
But, like true love, only a special few may savor its full richness
That which you have in your hand is now yours alone
With care it will last forever
    If neglected it will spoil
In times of hardship it will sustain you
In times of joy it will delight you
    Be gentle with this gift

Smarmy is good for wedding days.

Coyote- it's just perfect as it is.

Dan- you are so right. DH doesn't have any sappy bones either. If you guys only knew how much power a little smarmy sweetness has, lol.

Default Got a daughter heading in this direction

so I read your post with great interest. Always the editor, never the author, this is my humble effort to enhance your lovely (swarmy is good in these circumstances) sentiment.

    On your wedding day
This honey from our bees is our gift to you.
    It is sweet
    It is pure
It is not so rare that those who desire it cannot have it.
But, like true love, only a special few may savor its full richness
That which you have in your hands, both our honey and your love,
    is now yours alone.
With care both will last all the days of your lives.
    If neglected they will spoil.
In times of hardship they will sustain you
In times of joy they will delight you
    Be gentle with these gifts
I arise in the morning torn between a desire to save the world and a desire to savor it. Makes it hard to plan the day.

I guess I would try to remove any negative reference. The word spoil spoils the romance. . . .

heeheehhee Keith, since when was marriage about romance? After 25 years I've decided it's about hard work, nothing wrong with hard work. Guess I feel marriage is a little like honey. There'd be something wrong if you could harvest something as wonderful as honey from creatures that couldn't sting. Something wrong if you could have a truly intimate relationship without working at it. My sweetie and I have finally figured it out and there is no woman or amount of money that could woo me away from her.

Was it easy to get to this point? Hell no!! Was it hard work? You betcha'! Is it worth it? Absolutely. Am are starting to sound like Donald Rumsfeld? Afraid so, I'm gonna shut up now. But respectfully, I'm with Coyote here, the word "spoil" just has to stay, but I do appreciate your point.

Hey, I appreciate the input. You guys are pretty good. We should probably "wiki" the verse and make it an official Beesource card that can be printed and given with the honey. Move over, Hallmark, the beekeepers are here!
I'll mull these over and put mine together. (It's for a young couple, not me.)

"If neglected, it may be lost"

I'm not sure if I like that any better, but it came to mind.

He - now and then, now and then.

I guess it really sounded like a warning to me. IF you need warings, get a pre--nup!
