mites and ticks
i seen on tv the other day that a tick can live up to ten years without feeding off of a host. i had no clue that a tick could even live that long, much less without eating! i know that i have read before and have forgotten, but how long can a varroa mite live without feeding off of a host?

A few days. I suspect a lot of the mites which drop off are moribund anyway.
