    Default galvanized equipment

Does any one know if it is legal to use galvanized equipment in honey extraction if the honey is going to be resold in New York State.

I read somewhere that unprotected galvanized metal can not be used for extracting equipment. The galvanize material will flake off in small amounts into the honey. This galvanize material is toxic.

I don't know about the legality in various locations but the clear epoxy you can buy from bee supply houses (and maybe locally-I don't know) work well on providing a protective coating on materials such as galvanized metal. Once applied and dry, it provides a barrier between the metal and your honey. It dries clear and has a glossy look.

I survived eating the honey extracted from my Dad's old galvanized Root extractor in NYS for a score of years...but I did read somewhere that stainless is the law now.
