Yes you can put it right next to the donor hive, shake plenty of extra bees into it because the older bees will fly back to the mother hive. And you want to provide enough nurse bees to cover the brood.
I make few hundred of nucs every year. 100% I move them to different location, reduce the entrance, feed even if there is a honey flow, and put a queen or queen cell after a day. Feeding help with queen exceptance because you can't rely always on the weather.
