I'm in San Diego and have had three swarm calls already this year.
The first was on February 9th, although it had gone by the time I got there.
![]()
One swarm on Feb. 13. It was gone before I got there but was described as "big as a basketball". Not sure.
Another swarm on Feb. 19. Probably a little bigger than a large grapefruit. I put it in a box with drawn frames. We'll see if it make it.
Location is south central Texas. 90 miles North West of Houston. Zip is 77833.
Weather has been 65 during the day and 42 at night.
Beautiful weather.

3/2/08 split this hive about 2 weeks ago but it swarmed anyway. Watched it take off while working in the garden. 30 feet in a pine tree.size of 2 soft balls. 27 miles north of Tallahassee Fl. 32333.
3/10/08 New Orleans area, turned a swarm around (scouts) from a home earlier today. 3/08/08 had 3 swarms in the same backyard, somebodys a beekeeper in the area...not me though. I lost my hives after the storm and I just started cleaning up the beeyard again. I think this year I will repopulate again.

Got to see one of my hives swarm today - it was very cool, but they lit on a tree too high to get to, so, I lost them, so it was disappointing too![]()

small swarm from a split I made to prevent swarming.interesting they swarmed a couple hours before a large storm that was moving in. plenty of stings on that one.

interesting indeed
I'm near you and picked one up the same day
you'd think they'd know not to swarm just before bad weather
maybe they can't predict it any better than us

Got a large swarm from my brothers hive on March 21st, he had been feeding them and adding some frames but missed the queen cells.
