I had a swarm move into an empty nuc box sitting behind the garage on5/10/07. The wife came in and ask, "did you know that there were bees in those boxes behind the garage?" - 22407
That was a pleasant surprise. We do not know where the came from - I had just gone through all my hives two days before and saw not signs of swarm preparations.
Nice folks had 2 strong hives overwintered in 3 deeps each and had no more equipment to hive the swarm themselves. Large swarm. I had 2-5frame medium nucs stacked and the swarm barely fit in them.
Hive swarmed this morning. I am in the middle of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Bees went to low handing limb of Scotch Pine. Cut off limb and got bees into a deep hive box. Will move it tonight.
Swarm in Haymarket - about 45 minutes away around the same date...April 15th. last year I had one around April 17th and the year I started with bees (2006), we saw a swarm and it was April 9th
Mechanicsville, VA 23111 Swarmed 5/18 or 5/19 (partly sunny and in 70's) found them up in tree just above the hive...Beek friend came and got them down for me, so now I have 5 hives instead of 4!
Had a swarm call today in SW Virginia. First one I have heard about around here this year. They were about 25 feet up in holly tree. Probably 5 lbs of dark colored bees. I got there in time to see another swarm issue from a second hive and fly about 50 feet up in a white pine. Got the first one hived up and went back after dark to collect. Had to let the high one go.
2nd swarm this spring. 5/5/11 Washington County Va.
