Just got my 4th feral swarm this year. 72 degrees F sunny after a night of rain. Clinton County, Indiana. Easiest swarm call out yet. Swarm was on a pine tree small limb that with the weight of the bees brought it down to about 1' off the ground. Clipped the limb into a box, duct taped the box and brought them home and dumped them into their new hive.
    I would guess 3 lbs.

Went on a swarm call yesterday (8/29) and retrieved a softball-sized swarm. Probably will combine it will a weak hive.

As you start seeing swarms in your area perhaps you might reply to this thread so we can track the season?

A simple post of your location, weather, origin of swarm if known, and date would be great.

    Thanks in advance!

4/3/12 just got home in time to see a swarm on the tree behind the bee hive. it was wrapped around the trunck of a skinny tree but not where i could get it. i pulled out an empty hive to sit beside the tree with 2 frames of honey from my other hive but when i came back out to do this they were gone. weather hot close to 80 and sunny.

First swarm today, medium size. They settled in a bush about a foot from the ground. Tough job! Dumped them in a plastic storage box. Dark when I got them home so I'll leave them until morning. About 5 to 6 weeks early for central Indiana I think.

Lat Wednesday, the 18th, I was lucky enough to see my only hive swarm after starting them from a pkg. last year, managed to get them gathered up and into another box that I had spritzed with lemongrass. they’re still in there

impressed and scared silly at the same time

South side of Indianapolis, May 11.

Got a call from the fire department with swarm at the fire house. Pulled up and put them in a box. The firement thought I was crazy as I did not have a veil with me. The firemen said "I will run into a burning building any day, but I am not about to go near any bees!!"

    5/16/2013 Indianapolis Indiana

4 calls in the last two days. One had already taken up residence in a house, one flew off before I could get there and 2 I passed on to other beeks due to time constraints.

Picked up another one in a swarm trap 7/19/13. No pollen entering as of 7/24. Odds are good queen was/is a virgin. Good looking group of hard workers.

Small swarm had moved to ground, pebbles etc, from a low lying bush.
Placed a plastic nuc with some used frames on the ground and the girls just marched in. We found the queen but she was dead on the ground.
Will attempt to combine wirh older hive to boost foragers.
