Basketball size swarm in Plainville, Ct. Scooped them up yesterday after I got the call. Home owner said they had been there for a day or 2. Probably swarmed on Tuesday, was really warm that day.
Got them boxed with a frame of donated brood.

Forgot to post this last week but I had a beautiful swarm fly right into my yard and took up residence in a 2 deep empty hive. Very large swarm and very gentle bees. Not from any of my hives.

    Default Connecticut

    What is needed:

    • zip code, city or county
    • date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
    • comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.
    Regards, Barry

    Swarm on 4/30/2016
Saw them swam, watched to where they congregated to. 15 yards from my other hives, 3 feet off the ground on a think limb-
First swarm I caught, very cool.

Saw the first dutch clover today in New Haven. There were no bees working it. Bees are working the hawthorn, bringing in red pollen.

Hawthorn pollen is yellowish, maybe the red is henbit or horse chestnut.

    3 swarms caught so far...
5/9- a huge swarm flew right into 2 deeps I had set up in Southington.
5/17- collected a nice size swarm from the side of a car in Bristol.
5/20- just missed a big one in Chesire. Flew away right before I got there...
5/22- collected another nice one from a tree branch in Bristol.

I'm glad that colonies (not mine) are doing well enough to swarm. I haven't been trying to get my name out there for swarm collection, but I've not even had any luck with lemongrass oil anointed nucs with old black comb in them as swarm traps here in New Haven.

Some things that I believe have been helpful to me in catching swarms in traps is making sure that at least one frame in the middle only has partial comb so that they have room to hang and something to build. I also put a 2" spacer on the bottom board to provide room down below the frames. Along with the dark comb and lemon grass oil of course...
    Swarms like to hang!!🐝

Yesterday I came home to find a large swarm 30' up in a fir tree. Successfully captured. While planting my garden today one of my larger hives that I had split two weeks ago decided to swarm! This time 50' up. No chance on that one. After a few hours it took off. Nothing captured in my swarm traps. That would be too easy!!
