21042 Ellicott City, MD. Medium swarm (3#-4#) about six feet up on 1.5" branch on a large shrub. Owner said they had been there for at least two days. Some wax strips on the branch, but not really comb yet. Weather sunny last few days, highs upper forties to mid sixties, overnight lows mid thirties to mid forties. Got the queen early and bees marched right into an old deep with drawn comb.

One of my hives swarmed today (4/6) in Maryland 20910, zone 7. 2pm, weather around 60 degrees and sunny. I was out in the yard and thought it was an orientation flight at first. They landed on a nearby tree and have been up there for a few hours.

Swarms: May 27th escaped capture, June 10th Caught, June 16th Caught. One hive swarmed earlier in May but at a beeyard I do not get to very often so I do not when exactly--but probably the first week of May.

Last week, ~ May 6 a farmer with 9 hives had one swarm (near Kingsville, MD). The weather was upper 60's and sunny.

I am in Carney, about 8 miles from Kingsville. I did a complete inspection on one of my hives on May 5 (2 deep 8-frame with medium on top). There was only one partially constructed queen cell in the whole hive. On Friday May 9 I split that hive. That frame which had one cell now had 5 partially constructed queen cells. I put my swarm box up about 200 feet from the hives yesterday.

Swarm hived itself in an empty box sometime around noon today, 4/29, in Libertytown, MD. May very well fill 2 deeps when they're done settling in. Mid 60's today, clear skies, light N breeze. Was using 2 year old pheromone vial (placed about a month ago) and lemon pledge (a good dose at the entrance every week) as lure in 2 deeps with drawn comb.

    What is needed:

    • zip code, city or county
    • date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
    • comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.
    Regards, Barry
