I checked my hives in Stuart, Va, today (1/13) and they are bringing in lots of yellow pollen. They have been collecting it long enough to have packed into wallet sized areas of brood comb. They are also bringing in a green pollen. I don't know the source of either of the pollens.

Sunday April 28th, 22963 (central VA). I had a fairly decent sized swarm, early afternoon before a rainstorm. They may have been my bees, but darned if I can tell which hive it was. I recaptured them and stuffed them in a spare nuc box until I can get another hive ready.
A nearby acquaintance also had a swarm the same day (which they lost).

June 15th, 2013, Roanoke (Bonsack area), VA 24012. Perfect June day. Just finished checking out a nuc in my backyard that had a bunch of scouts around it. Not too impressed as I had seen that before. Go in the house, post a video of the scouts to show my Cousin (here is that video). Go out to check a Top Bar in the backyard. Bees doing the typical afternoon orientation flights. Go back in the house and wife asks about the scouts. I told her that the scouting had calmed down (only saw a single bee on the way back in) but the boys and girls were orienting, which we like to watch. She goes to the window and screams "OH MY GOD! LOOK OUT THE WINDOW!" Tons and tons of bees moving into the nuc. Checked my other hive in the yard, but there were not coming from that box. Anyway we got to sit in the middle of a swarm with my wife and daughter. It was very, very cool! Posting the video of the swarm here. Cant wait to open her up in a few days to see how big it is. It seemed huge!

We caught a swarm on 06-28 in northern VA. It was hanging out in a 6-foot sapling about 10 feet away from the entrance of the hive it split from.

22 April 2014, Virginia Beach, VA. From one of my own hives that was an over wintered Nuc 5 over 5 medium, switched to a 8 frame medium with 2 mediums on 03/11/14, added two more mediums April 1. All boxes filled, 4, on 4/13/134 with queen cells. Created Nuc with some queen cells at this time, but figured they would swarm anyway & they did today. Watched them leave in a cloud & they landed in a Bradford Pear tree in neighbors yard about 70' away. Got my gear & was able to get them out of the tree back into an empty 2 box medium 8 frame. Approximately 4 to 4 1/2 # of bees. Happy I caught it, but not happy my hive swarmed anyway

A large prime swarm near Shawsville, VA (between Roanoke and Blacksburg) today. First we've heard about in these parts this year. As I was loading the truck to go get it, they called to say it took off.
