Brockport, PA 15823 - Got a call in the morning about a swarm in their Maple tree. I didn't get there until early afternoon, and by then when the lady went to show me where they were, they were gone.

Bees came from their house where honeybees are coming and going from under their 2nd story window. It's an old Victorian house - so hard to tell if the bees are in the wall or floor joist. They don't want their house torn apart, so will continue to put up with them living there.

I of course informed them of the consequences of doing nothing - or the different ways to get them out. I of course told them if they ever got the bees out - the comb and honey would need to be taken out.

    My hive swarmed yesterday.

6/9/14, Russians, southeastern (seacoast) New Hampshire.
Nice day. First they went way high up in a nearby pine tree, then after 3 hrs. they clouded up and went on their merry way.

For every frowning beekeeper who just lost a swarm, there's a smiling one who just gained one. (hopefully)

Got a call this evening from a friend where I have a swarm trap set up - sitting on a stump. He said bees were going in and out.
I stopped by and lifted the lid, and it's a good size swarm that has moved in. I'll leave them get established for several days before I move it home.
I set another swarm trap on top of this box in case there are other bees looking for a new home.

Haven't seen any swarms from my hives so far this year, not in SC or since arriving back in NY 6 weeks ago.

Two 3 lb. after swarms in the same low apple tree.
Each had its own queen, virgins I suspect. The swarms were about 10" apart.

As you start seeing swarms in your area perhaps you might reply to this thread so we can track the season?

A simple post of your location, weather, origin of swarm if known, and date would be great.

    Thanks in advance!

Google NW NJ Beekeepers and check out swarm date/ We are using swarm dates to work on Spring Management to do swarm prevention. We are attempting to use grow degree days and do such things as checker boarding, splits, nucs, and chart brood cycles for mite management, and also development of drone. Would like to point out the good works of Walt Wright and also Mike Palmer who seem to point out the path to hive management opportunities. Hey with the bees, its not one way or the other way-its their way we seek to understand and why/

Well, well, now one of my own hives swarmed 10:38am 6/14/14, clear sunshine day 87 degrees approx.

They are in a tree approx 40' high, I placed a large Top Bar Swarm Trap almost directly under where they are in the tree in hopes of luring them back to the hotel atmosphere they left from lol

OK now what to do with the hive they left from?

    Being new and not knowing what do to is disheartening:{

    Thanks for any feedback!

Snookie, repost this in the TBH forum. If it is a swarm you should have half or so of the hive left behind so they can build back up.

Windsor, Ontario. Got a call from someone who found me on Beesource. Small swarm, probably a couple pounds. Found 2-3 queens that look like virgins so probably an afterswarm. Added frame of brood, hopefully they stay put.

Wow, right place at right time. God is good! This is a great story. Hopefully, I'll catch some swarms during next swarm period. Not much chance here now in SW La.

I have 3 bait hives sitting near an old abandoned house that has bees in the wall. Hadn't seen anything until I checked on it tonight. The hive nearest to where I parked (sitting on a garbage can) had a few bees flying around going in and out. The next hive (also sitting on a garbage can) had one bee looking at it. The last hive (sitting on the ground) had all kinds of bees flying around it and going in and out.

At first I thought a swarm must have moved in it was that busy, but I lifted the lid - and just bees checking it out.

But something is going on - there is either a swarm already nearby or the bees in the house about ready to swarm are checking out their next house.

Appears to be a swarm taking up residence in a bait hive 7' high in a lone oak in the middle of my pasture. Lot of bees coming an going, but I'll inspect tomorrow to be sure. Sometime in the past 5 days. May or may not befrom my hives?
