Is it safe to hive packages in the rain

    Hello

I have two packages coming today and i was wondering if it ok to hive them in the rain it is in the 50's here and i have everything set up and ready for them i sprayed a couple of frames with syrup and filled the cells up which should last them for a couple of days. My other hives are out working in the rain but thats nothing new but was just wondering if it is safe to put them on in or take out some frames and dump some of them over the queen and set the package in the hive and let them come out thru the opening in the top of the cages.

I hived my first package of bees in a cold rain. Just be prepared and dump them in there as the instructions say.

    Cool

Why don't you wait till Thursday when the sun is shining...at least that's what our forecast here in NC is saying. I hate working with bees in the rain, it really sucks. Then of course they are also predicting a slight cold spell again on Sunday morning. If it were me, I'd wait till that was over and do it next week. I'd put the bees in a closet and spray them with sugar water, they should be fine.

As long as it is not pouring the rain you should be fine If they have some sugar water and you wont to hive them I dont see a issue with a good thump and dump will work out fine. The rain will help hold them in the hive also.

Safe for you or safe for the bees? They don't particularly enjoy being rained on. Bees will probably be fine... you on the other hand I don't know.

    Just kidding.
