I examined some old combs from my two mite killed hives. The foundation was wired 5.2mm of unknown origin. The bees had drawn it out accurately from 5.15mm to 5.35mm. The bees were Carni-Italian cross from Kona in Hawaii. The first hive was given to me and the other one was a late season swarm from the bee yard where I got the other ones.
I am trying to learn things from this in order to start over effectively with 4.9mm. I was thinking one possible cause for the last failure was that there are no mites in Hawaii. This I think would be why there was no resistance. Know what I mean?

I think there are plenty of people with all kinds of breeds losing all of their bees to mites.
