Cutting down Pierco all-in-ones

Just wondering. Say you have a bunch of Pierco all-in-one deep frames, but you're going to all mediums or, in my case, to all 7 5/8 boxes.

What would be the issues with using cut-down Piercos, if any?

How negatively will cutting them down affect their long-term usefulness?

For brood??? If they are limited to brood
they may be OK. Buy I'd think they'd self
destruct in an extractor??

The foundation part is to thick to fit in a grooved top bar or bottom bar (you could use a wedged top bar)
it can be fixed but it's not particularly easy

I'd be keeping the top bar, just cutting off two inches from the bottom and leaving it at that.

Since the bees already tend to connect one box to the next, it doesn't seem like there would be a down side (except cell size [img]smile.gif[/img] ). I'd just cut them off.

Lupine I would go with wooden frames and then insert cut down Pierco sheet inserts. They can be trimmed quickly and will snap right in. The will have good structural integrity that way and will be versatile in their applications.
