I used to install cow /hog waters in lots, too remote for electric, for heat .To keep unthawed. What it was, we put a tile of concrete that we made 20"in dia buried it 3'in the ground set a black plastic waterer on top sealed by a big ball they push it down to get at water, heres the thought the thermal ground heat kept it frost free . So we set a hive ,with screened bottom on it and seal it with a slab around it insulate hive wall it can help heat the hive keeping bees at 40 or so degrees. Any thoughts Seal the bottom to keep water out, if water table is high there.Or pump it up on a water trough for them .
