It is my intention to build a hive top feeder, so I have been looking around to get some ideas. There seem to be two distinct reservoirs styles on hive top feeders, those with one reservoir (like the one on this page) and those with two (like this one).
Is this just a matter of personal preference, or is there a good reason to have two reservoirs as apposed to one?
I suppose 1/2 can be used for syrup and 1/2 could be used for dry feed, but other than that I see no reason to design this way. Or perhaps it is an issue to allow for safe surface area to the bees to access the syrup, but this can still be achieved in a single reservoir system.
As far as I can tell a single reservoir would be easier to build and use less material.
