Hi,
Just received some SBBs from Walter T Kelly. Man, they're pretty nice! Well constructed. You can take out the screen and the drop board. Pretty neat. I can;t wait to paint them up. Thought I'd share that with you.

I first tried screened bottom boards this past summer and I'm thrilled at how well they worked. I made them myself, I had no bees on the outside of my hives on the hottest days, kept hives cooler and I could find no mites! I switched back to solid boards in November to help keep the hives warm.
I'm going to use alot of SBB this spring. Going to put them on hive stands that have been sitting around not being used. That way there is about a 3 inch gap from ground to bottom board, but also no way for winds to penetrate in winter. It may not ventilate as much in the summer, but won't over ventilate in winter either. My main concern is that whatever I go with, I'm not switching things and lifting throughout the year.
