Anyone ever spent the extra money for cypress wood? Was it worth it? Simpsons bee supply sells cypress wood boxes for $2.00 over the regular cost.

    Thanks,

It's worth the $2. They are light, strong and never rot. They will outlast pine at least 3 to 1.

I've been buying Cypress from Rossman's. Their Cypress is competitive with most everyone else's pine or whatever. I generally buy the commercial grade equip which may have a few tight knots or other blemishes.

Plus, He's the closest to me so the frt is better (or I pick-up).

Most Cypress I've seen has rabbitted joints and not the box or finger joints you may expect with others. Properly glued and nailed with titebond II or equivalent WATERPROOF glue, you won't know the difference. Also, rabbitted joints don't have as much end grain exposed.

Cypress weathers to a greyish silver color and some people don't paint their hive bodies. (I paint mine though) My great uncle's house is well over 100 yrs old, has cypress siding and has never been painted!
