Watching the chaos caused by the ice storms in the midwest I'm wondering how many folks are sitting on the sofa looking at a blank wide screen plasma teeeeveeee on the wall. In looking for an emergency standby generator for the house, it seems like the price for one that will keep the furnace and lights on is about the same as a fancy teeeeeveeee. Hmmmmmm.

I thought about the same thing Coyote, not because of ice but the storm part, we lose our electricity a lot because of storms, we were hoping the father in-law would cough up enough for Christmas. hehe

Coyote - we're just recovering from a windstorm that did something similar (folks down the hill got power back christmas day. 11 days post storm or so). Been thinking a lot about whether or not it was a good move putting in the new water heater versus the generator.
