Thread: Fall seed swap

1. #1
I enjoy different seeds and plants that are good for the bees and I'm always looking for something new to plant. I think it would be fun to work on a fall seed swap for beesourse members.

I've found a number of young Tulip Popular trees that could be transplanted this fall.

I should also have some Yellow Cosmos flower seed.

I would like to trade for some young Black Locust Trees.

Anyone interested in a seed swap list your wants / trades

Hmmmmm...

I could probably get some basswood/linden seeds if there's interest - there are a couple of large ones on the grounds of a church nearby.

There's a gorgeous basswood I know of over in Norristown - if I remember I'll try to get some seeds from that one.

How about sourwood - anybody got any? Is it a tree? How far north will it grow?

What else are people interested in?

I could get you some locust see if you want some CFF. Note that it's considered invasive, and it will grow roots into your septic if you have one.

Pete"
I've been searching for sourwood and I think I spotted one yesterday. I just need to make sure what I found is the real McCoy and I'll be collecting seeds for swap.

I do understand that black lucust is considered invasive but I have an out yard thats a great location for it.

I should also have several young Tulip Popular trees available this fall/spring season if your interested.

we have tons of Tuliptree up here - thanks though CFF

I'm hoping to actually get some honey from some next year. Around me it's all mixed hardwoods with Tuliptree part of the mix. I know where there's a large mostly-pure stand of them down by Valley Forge National Park though - all I have to do is figure out a way to get a couple hives set up there...

I'll have to read up on Sourwood - might be needing to swap you for some come fall

I'll get a few pics of the tree I found (I think it's sourwood) maybe some beesourse members can help me ID it for sure.

Hi Pete and CFF,
Here is a link about Sourwood

I would be very interested in doing these trades but unfortunately don't have anything to trade but I will be on the lookout for things.
Post a list of whatever you are looking for and if there is anything in my area I will try to get seeds or starts from it.
As far as my list would go anything is fine with me as I love growing everything.

Pete, I don't know what I would trade you for them, but I would kill for some Basswood seeds. I looked all over for them, no one sells Basswood trees around here. I opted for Tulip Poplars instead. Please keep me in mind.

You don't have to kill for them. My brother in law is growing them. Turns out they're really hard to get to germinate. His plan it to sell seedlings.

I can get some California Laurel(Pepperwood) for anybody interested but wont be able to gather seeds until October.
This tree or shrub depending on how you grow it blooms in late winter-early spring.

I'll post others latter

I have some already-chilled persimmon seeds now if anyone wants em - should be ready for planting. Only caveat is they're from two falls ago, but they should still be good. They've been packed in damp sphagnum moss in my beer fridge since harvested Bonus is the parent tree grows good size and tasty persimmons!

George, I would be interested in some of those basswood seedlings if he can ship them to Missouri.

Big Ed- I expect to see him later this week and I'll ask him exactly what kind he's got and about their status and get back to you. He got the seeds this past winter, I don't know what stage they're at just now.
