rearing my own queens

i was looking to rear some of my own queens this summer and interested in the hopkins method of rearing queens. my Q is the hopkins method said to put the frame of brood on top of the brood about 2 to 3 inchs. but now how do i put the cover on the hive ? is there a frame or cover for this method of rearing queens? help

You'll have to build something. You could do it any number of ways. One would be to build two frames about 2" tall the size of a hive and cut a piece of plywood to fit. Make a cutout in the plywood for the frame of brood to fit into (or over). Then you can put the first 2" frame on and then the plywood and then the horizontal comb and then the next 2" frame and then the lid.

I use an Imire shim (check the spelling)
This is a box that is made like a 2 1/2 inch piece sliced off a hive body that gives you room to lay down the frame. I also use an empty frame laying backward to hold the queen frame about 1 inch above the top bars to allow the queen cells to be drawn down.
