Thread: Unknown Bug ??

    While checking the bottom board under my screens I found several small small black bugs with yellow spots on their back. I also had had some comb in a pail waiting to melt and several of these bugs found their way there also. Any quick ideas.

    I will try and get some pictures as soon as it stops raining.

    I don't know of any beehive pest that meets that description. I wouldn't worry about it. Probably some kind of beetle that's not a real problem.

    Just an everyday beetle as MB said. Once you have SHB, you will be glad to only find the ones with yellow spots.

    I'd guess you found "picnic beetles," which are in the same family as SHB, but don't pose any real threat to bee hives. Picnic beetles, or sap beetles, are attracted to many sweets. The scientific name is Glisochrochilus quadrisignatus.
