I have been wondering, if I want to requeen a hive or get a queen to split a hive, does it matter if the new queen I purchase is a different breed than what is currently in the hive? Will the existing bees accept the new queen if she is not the same breed?

No, it doesnt matter. However the next generation of bees will be the same type as the new queen.
