Hello, I have to move a hive temporarily (for one day) while I do some landscape work. My plan is to screen up the entrance on a Friday evening, and add an empty super over the second brood chamber (so they have room) and then move the hive with straps and cleats. All should be moved back into position on Staurday evening.

Can I leave my gals sealed up for a day? The temp's this weekend will be in the 60's. I thought by adding the empty super they would have more room and I could screen under the cover and give them aditional ventilation.

    Thoughts??

Sounds fine, but if it a very strong colony
you might consider removing the top cover and
fastening screen wire or plastic screen.

Pete, your suggestion to "consider removing the top cover and fastening
screen wire or plastic screen" is a very good one. I think that my plan
is to add an empty honey super with a screened top so that the bees have
room for the one day of confinement. As long as the hive is in the shade
do you see any reason why I can not simply leave the top off the hive
    for increased ventilation?

Thanks for your help and direction.

    Geo.
