Hello Gang,
Just had a question in reference to a split this time of the year in these parts. I have a strong colony in a 2 brood box and was wondering on a split. Not much production in the honey...must of been too much rain. Didn't know if would be too late for this manipulation, thought that I would throw it out to the one's in these parts.

Regards,

I'm just N of ATL and in the process of splitting, nucing etc. If you pour on the feed, you will be able to get the popolation built up and some honey stored for overwintering. Try to keep the feed going strong so by late oct/nov they have plenty of stores. Feeding in the winter is a pain.

You can get away with a thin sugar solution for no to help stimulate the queen into continued laying but as autum progresses, switch to a thicker syrup so the bees don't have to work so hard to store and dry it.
