I have two small colonies. One is a one month old nuc that is on 5 frames. The other hive started 6 weeks ago as a captured swarm.

My concern is in regard to the swarm colony. I went for 4 weeks with out seeing any brood. I was excited when I finally saw brood a week and a half ago. However when I insected to day I noticed a lot of the cells were sticking out because drones were developing in them.

I want to watch it just a little longer to see if this happens to all of the brood cells when they are caped. If this is the case then I know I have either a bad queen or laying workers.

If I have laying workers would it work to combine this hive with my other hive ? Would the bees from the swarm colony accept the queen from the nuc hive?

    Hi

Go ahead and combine the broodboxes and then the honey supers.

ONce you get brood in two or more boxes you cn always split after you make a crop of honey and have two hives again.
