I've been going through some old combs in preparation for rendering and came across a piece of stamped aluminum deep foundation. The cell size is 5.0 mm.

Anyone know about when this stuff was manufactured?

    George,

    Try this thread:

Interesting stuff! I've never seen any aluminum foundation, but now I'll keep my eyes open for it.

Jeez Jon, why didn't I think of that and golly, it's a current thread too. I guess I'll abandon this one.

    Hi Guys,

There still seems to be plenty of it around and in use, especially in California where cold isn't much of a problem.

And if you find it in your operation after setting bees in the almonds, you can bet someone was making splits off of your bees while you were away. That's how I saw my first aluminum foundation/comb.

    Regards
    Dennis
