I want to do some close-up bee photography with my 35MM Canon SLR. I have a normal lens, a wide angle and a 70-200 macro zoom. What would be the best lens for close-ups with correct depth-of-field and high-speed shutter, 200 or 400 speed film. I've been using the various screw-on diopters +1 to +4, but don't think the depth-of-field looks right.

You need a true macro lens. What camera system do you use? Each camera mount system has good macro lenses as well as some third party lenses for those mounts. I shoot Canon and use the EF-S 60mm macro and the EF 100mm macro. Depth of field is always limited with macro. Stopping way down can help, so good lighting is essential.

I have an old Canon AE-1(not AE-1 Program). It has been a sufficient camera. Uses FD lenses. Not a problem to find FD lenses, just wasn't sure of what foacl length, etc.

I'm partial to Leica and Ziess myself except
    I can't afford them. I have old Minolta SLR's
that I still love..... die hard film guy. But
I've been oggling the digital SLR's by Nikon.
