One of my two hives has been limping along all summer - swarming, poor queen, no honey crop. I tried re-queening twice in spring/early summer but both new queens were killed/superceded. I decided to just wait until fall to re-queen.
Looked for the (unmarked) queen in September and couldn't find her. Things got busy and wasn't able to look again until today - and AHA! found her.
And (in hindsight) stupidly, killed her.
The local beekeeping supply store has no queens. I've called every queen breeder advertising in the most recent Bee Culture and nobody has any queens.
So what to do now? There are eggs in the frames, but even if they raise a queen, will it get them through the winter if it hasn't mated?
My plan (if I can't get a queen somewhere) is to combine my two hives with newspaper and then split and requeen in the spring.
Any other ideas? Anybody know a breeder with queens?
Thanks in advance.
