Origin of "Super"????

Greetings . . .

"Hive body" and "Brood chamber" are easy to understand. "Super" means over, above, on top but, does it have some other origin?

Just pondering in my porch swing!

Um, I think if you Really want to know where the term "super" came from, one has to dig deep into the trials and struggles of early modern apiculture. According to history, a number of successes were made in quite rapid succession. These included removable frames, wax foundation, wiring, extractors, uncappers, smokers, etc. It seems that there was just one major problem still left to be solved. "The proper design for the hive itself." One day, a prominent bee researcher was called to his work shop by a employee who pointed out that the frames, bottom boards, and inner and telescoping covers all seemed to fit perfectly to a simple wooden box. When the researcher saw this, he remarked "SUPER!"
And there you have it. Life is so simple at times.
