I think power lines must have a really powerful effect on my bees, in particular my Russians. Twice in the last month I have watched as a bee took off from the hive entrance, began circling and climbing higher, only to smack headlong into the power lines about 30 feet overhead. Is it possible that bees fly blind, maybe with a magnetic sense of direction? Or are my russians in need of glasses?
It's an interesting observation. I'd love to see a video of it.
My bees are under a power line also, I have not seen any problems with this set up. This is my first year with bees and my only place to put them. They seems to love it there.
Russians plus vodka = poor flying.
They do seem to spend a lot of time at the enrtrance feeder that I spiked with vodka. Of course the drones seem especially fond of it.
