    can you keep just one medium honey super on all winter with the queen exluder on? will the bees abandon the queen and move to the honey or will they stay with the queen?

    It is not a good idea to leave anything above an excluder over the winter. The bees could leave her behind.

    Yes MountainCamp is right. In the winter as the bees cluster they move to where the honey is. Generaly they move up as the honey is consumed. If they come to an excluder the cluster passes through, but the queen will be left behind.
