How many have you seen in a hive? I had a hive that was queenless. I placed brood in this hive from another. Later on I decided to order a new queen because of a lack of drones. After checking the hive I found queen cell in which a queen had emerged. I found the new queen killed her and placed in my new queen. Today the first frame I pulled out I found another queen. I killed this queen. The new queen was still in her cage being fed by the other bees. Was this other queen failing (even though she was young) and the bees could detect it. Anyone else ever had this happen?

They never raise just one queen. They probably had some other cells you missed.

Sometimes there are more then one queen in a hive, but they are usualy mother and daughter.
