They actually showed calm bees that weren't trying to kill people!!

Although 3,000,000 seemed a bit high to me....well, that's just reporting....

They said the hive was 5 to 7 feet tall, ok that is 3 to 4 frames end to end. Then 2 foot wide in a 2 x 4 stud wall. That is not much more comb then is in a deep brood box.

Do the numbers if the average life of a worker is 60 days, which is high, then the queen would have to lay 50,000 eggs a day for the hive population to be 3,000,000.

The story was carried on one of the local news channels here in Oregon. They said something like, "And the beekeepers got to keep THIRTY POUNDS OF HONEY!!!!!!!!!" as if 30 pounds was some obscenely monstrous amount.

(Of course, when I harvest my first 30 pounds, I'll be doing cartwheels.)
