I checked my two new hives for the first time yesterday. Everthing looks good except there was as an exceptionally large cell, or maybe two, right in the middle of the brood on one frame in my second hive. It was not big in diameter, but was definately capped and quite tall. I would say it was just shy of touching the frame next to it. Is this a drone cell? It actually looks more like there was comb drawn out and a small section was drawn out farther than the rest. They simply capped the cells after the queen laid eggs. Is this normal? It is dead center on the frame in the middle of normal capped brood cells. Any input would be appreciated.
