    Question

Finding queens is not my easiest task, maybe you swarm chasers could give me a tip.

In fifteen swarms caught, I have only seen the queen once. My question is, where do you usualy find the queen in a swarm?

The one time I saw her it was on a swarm that had parked on a four inch post about eighteen inches tall. She was on top of the post in the open, no bees were touching her.

Where is the best place to start looking, and what are the signs?

It's difficult in a swarm because they are all over her. She's usually on the branch or whatever, with them all around and over her. I just try to get all the ones hanging on the branch. Then I wait a while to see if they settle into the box or start moving back to the tree. A splash of Lemongrass essential oil in the box seems to help too.

I have hardly ever seen the queen in a swarm until a few days later.

Maybe someone else have better tricks for that.
