I went to inspect a hive within a block building that the owner would like to have removed. I was taken with the color and shape of bees, very bright orange and rather short. What type of bee would that indicate?
I would guess they are Italians. I've seen a broad variation of colors and Italians can range from a very dark yellowish, almost brown, to a very light orange-yellow.
There is also a breed known as Cordovan, which is a very light orange-yellow bee. This breed is man made, typically focusing on the recessive color trait of Italians. If left to their own, Cordovans eventually loose their bright color as dominant traits begin to take over again.
Hope this helps.
