    Question

My hives are in Upstate New York with a mix of NWC, Italians, and feral mix.
I have (1) bee yard that is at about 1100 feet and its been cold and snowy up to the last couple of days. The soft maples have been in bloom for about a week and half, but with temperatures too cold to fly much. The hard maples are just going into bloom.
I just check (5) hives with NWC that have bees covering 6 - 7 frames, queens are there, but not much in the way of brood, almost none, in any of them. The queens are last years.

They are bringing pollen and working well for mid 50's.

I do have hives with Italians that have already built up to good strengths, but this yard is almost 1,000 feet lower and 3 weeks ahead of home.

Is anyone else running into the same situation with the season this year running 2 - 3 weeks behind?

Update: After almost a week of flying and bringing nectar and pollen, things have changed. Just check the hives and they have expanded their brood nests and the laying patterns have filled in.
