We've had so much rain and cold weather and wind here in the east that the bees are not flying big-time yet. My bees are coming on strong and I'm hoping they will soon start busting down the gates with nectar. Tulip-poplar is budding out and will bloom with a few sunny days.
Banjos and bees... how sweet it is!
Well, one hive out of 6 went queenless. Combined it with the next strongest hive in a rescue attempt. I made a split out of another hive to make requeening easier. That hive has the meanest attitude of any hive I've ever worked. I've taken more stings from that hive already than the last 4 years combined. Found a bee-tree and began trapping it out 1 1/2 weeks ago because the trunk is over 3 feet in diameter. Wish me luck in catching it, that hive is STRONG.

Everything is going well here. Hived the second swarm of the season today. We found this one about 20 feet up in a cedar tree. Its cool and rainy here, but luckly got the bees in before the bottom dropped out.
