    What are some of the pros and cons in getting
    queens from local stock VS. non local stock.

    There is no such thing as an "adapted" bee. It is the "race" of bee that works in your area that counts. The trates that you are looking for are in the bee not in the breeder. In Northern Virginia we have gone from the Italian, to the Buckfast, now to the New World Carniolan. We only have about an 8 week period to raise brood before our short nectar flow May 1st. The NWC's build up FAST, are TM resistant and overwinter a smaller colony. This is what I sell as a Va. raised bee. E-mail me and I can give you the number to your local bee club in Va.
