Screened bottom boards

Sorry Wrong button. In a recent article in Bee Culture, it was said that you can leave screened bottom boards on through the winter. I have always taken mine off. Anyone have any info on this?

That would depend on your climate. I left mine on all winter, and was glad I did as it totally eliminated condensation in the hives, but then I live in the UK where winters are extremely mild by continental standards. That being said, some people in far colder climates have left theirs on all winter, and the bees have been OK.

Thanks Robert, I live in east TN. We get down to 0 to -15. The article was refering to New York which is far colder. Jim
