I have noticed that there appear to be several beekeeping firefighters as members here such as myself. Out of curiousity, chime in as to where you work, how long, and how long beekeeping.

Myself: 17 years career, the last 14 in Dayton. Beekeeping 5 years.

13 years as a firefighter, 2 volunteer, 11 career-last 7 at a department in St. Louis County, Mo. I was also a Paramedic for 8 years, got smart and got off the meatwagon, now a lowly E.M.T.

4 years as a beekeeper and loving it!

I caught a small swarm at the Firehouse yesterday! (See my post under "Unlucky Swarm").

Career FF/Medic in Stephenville, Tx for 5 and a half years and I'm on my second spring attempt with the bees. I lost my first two packages last summer so I guess I'm a bee "haver" until I can graduate to a "keeper".

This is funny. I have been thinking about joining, the fire house is only 5 doors down from me.
One of my friends just joined his local department.

Cool

Well...........

I have been a firefighter for over 35 years, never paid, except a few "on call".

Just retired two years ago as Training Officer for the Baker, Florida Firehouse, only to move to Bloutstown, Floirda and become the Training Officer for the Westside Firehouse.

I guess you never do become an
"EX-Firefighter". :->

Hey Sharkey I got the same problem, not successful about the ex- part, only beekeeping that is. It does get in your blood. Having seen far more come and go than are today (beekeepers that is) I would say most that have would still be if not for the maladies we have seen come on board over the last 22 years. Both are a great pursuit, just glad I chose the FF career for a living than the bees at the time I did. Bob Nelson
